MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — On September 19 the Mobile City Council approved the purchase of 49 Ford F150 Responder trucks for a price of $1.9 million.
That cost has increased by nearly $400,000 according to a new resolution that will go before the city council on Tuesday.
According to the resolution, the per truck cost is increasing $8,118 and the city is adding lights and running boards.
In September NBC 15 reported that both the Mobile County Sheriffs Office and Mobile Police were experiencing delays of 18 months for Chevrolet Tahoe Police vehicles and were looking into the possibility of purchasing the Ford equivalent. At that time Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine told us about the Ford F150’s “They’re already made, they’re already manufactured and they’re already sitting somewhere, waiting to be purchased.”
The Ford announced layoffs yesterday as a result of the ongoing United Auto Workers strike.
