results about 2024 Subaru WRX Gains Standard Safety Gear, Priced From $33,855
At first glance, it looks as if Subaru is increasing the base price of the WRX more than $2,000 for the 2024 model year. But the compact performance sedan now includes the automaker’s EyeSight advanced driver-assist system as standard equipment on all models; previously, EyeSight was only available on WRXs with automatic transmissions. Accounting for the additional equipment, the price increase from 2023 is really just $380.

EyeSight is a wide-ranging suite of active-safety systems that includes forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane-centering steering and lane departure prevention. In addition, all trim levels now come with the 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen, which replaces the split 7-inch screens that were previously standard.
Also new for 2024 is the WRX TR. With stiffer springs and retuned dampers, as well as a revised steering rack, the TR is aimed at WRX buyers who are headed to a paved racetrack. It rides on unique 19-inch wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza S007 performance tires and gets upgraded Brembo brakes. Inside, the TR features standard Recaro sport seats upholstered in synthetic suede and more headroom for helmeted drivers by omitting the moonroof that’s standard on other uplevel WRXs. The TR is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.
Powertrain Specs and MPG
Its name hearkening to the World Rally Championship, the WRX’s heart and soul is its turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four-cylinder engine and all-wheel drive. The 2.4-liter churns out 271 horsepower and 258 pounds-feet of torque, sending it through a standard six-speed manual or an optional continuously variable automatic transmission. In an unusual reversal of what is usually the case with modern cars, Subaru says the manual gets better fuel economy: 19/26/22 mpg city/highway/combined to the CVT’s 18/25/21 mpg (official EPA ratings for the 2024 model are not yet available).
Availability and Pricing
The 2024 Subaru WRX will arrive at dealerships early in 2024. Full pricing (including $1,120 destination fee) is as follows:
- Base: $33,855
- Premium: $35,755
- Limited: $40,135
- TR: $42,775
- GT: $45,335
Trim Levels and Safety Equipment
Other than the EyeSight safety tech and its high-performance drivetrain, the base WRX is a pretty, well, basic package. It rides on 17-inch wheels and includes LED headlights with automatic high beams, keyless entry, automatic climate control, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The CVT is not offered on the base WRX.
The Premium trim level gets dark-gray 18-inch wheels wearing performance tires and gets a body-color spoiler on the trunk lid. It also features LED foglights, keyless starting, heated front seats and side mirrors, a heated windshield-wiper de-icer and aluminum pedals. There are USB-A and USB-C charge ports in the front and rear seats. Subaru offers the CVT as an option on the Premium and Limited trims.
The Limited includes navigation, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, power driver’s seat, a power moonroof, and imitation suede and leather-trimmed seating with red accent stitching. It also adds a couple of safety features: adaptive headlights that turn with the steering wheel, blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert.
There are no upgrades to the TR beyond what is mentioned above. The GT is only offered with the CVT and adds matte-gray 18-inch wheels, Recaro front seats and a sport-tuned suspension featuring adjustable dampers with three modes: Comfort, Normal and Sport.
